Minister denies Bush 'Hitler' slur - Sep. 20, 2002

Herta Daeubler-Gmelin blamed "erroneous and inflammatory" newspaper reports for the scandal which has dominated the last day of campaigning ahead of German national elections on Sunday.

She is alleged to have told a meeting of unionists that Bush was going after Iraq's Saddam Hussein to divert attention from domestic problems, adding: "That's a popular method. Even Hitler did that."

Call me crazy, but you know, when Hitler did do this, the German people totally bought it.
Whenever the Fuhrer or Joseph Goebbels at his behest made a big speech about how the German people needed to devote their all to the defeat of "foreign enemies," they gave up everything for Deutschland and were even happy doing so.
So who's to say that Frau Daeubler-Gmelin wasn't giving President Bush a (back-handed) compliment?
It seems that their national feelings haven't changed much in over 60 years, especially their rampant Anti-Semitism and their German arrogance, so why should their admiration and devotion to Adolph Hilter be any different?
Saying Bush is like Hitler in Germany? "It's a GOOD thing."
