Taking his lead from President Bush, Blair backs Putin

Blair refuses to condemn Moscow hostage deaths

Tony Blair has refused to criticise the Russian authorities over their decision to use gas to end the Moscow theatre siege.

Mr Blair, speaking in the House of Commons, said the deaths of hostages were a tragedy - but added that there were "no easy, risk-free, safe solutions".

He added the Russian authorities had to act when the Chechen terrorists, who were demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from their country, started to execute some of the 700 hostages.[...]
Earlier, Mr Blair's official spokesman said No 10 would not "second guess" the Russian security service and added that Britain entirely understood that they had to act.

Do note that The Guardian used the T-word and did not call the Islamist terrorists "militants," "rebels" or the current Liberal Media favorite: "hostage-takers."
