4th I-D heads for Tikrit

US will move against Saddam's birthplace

American commanders are preparing to launch a major assault to seize Saddam Hussein birthplace in Tikrit later this week, even before US troops have completely finished off his regime in Baghdad.

According to military sources here, advance elements of the US 4th Infantry Division are being rushed into central Iraq from Kuwait, ready to spearhead the attack on Tikrit. It is hoped that the assault on the 'spiritual heartland' of the regime will deal yet another psychological hammer blow to Iraqi resistance.

The relentless US offensive against what military officers here call 'the pillars of the regime' gathered momentum over the weekend with the start of its campaign of daring tank raids into the centre of Baghdad.

If Saddam and/or his sons are still alive, they're in Tikrit.
Ditto the die-hards (literally?!) of the Ba'athist Party, which is made of Saddam's relatives.
We need to flatten Tikrit just to be on the safe side.
And a nice fresh, ready-for-bear 4th I-D is just the force to do it!
Hooah!
